Jessica Eye vs Zoila Gurgel set for December 7 Battle at Bellator 83 (Jessica Eye interview)

The anticipated showdown finally begins between Jessica Eye and Zoila Gurgel in Atlantic City NJ Dec 7th at the Bellator championships 83.

These two female athletes have been itching at each other and now both have the chance to show who rules the 125 lbs women’s division.

Jessica “Evil” Eye

Gurgel coming off a knee injury and 19 months off pulls a unanimous win over Casey Nolan in a shaky performance at Bellator 78.

We caught up to Jessica for an exclusive interview:

TA:How long have you been waiting for this match up with Zoila Gurgel?
Eye:1- I guess it really started after a grappling tournament I competed in Toledo. I grappled a teammate and some how things got heated from that point on . We had Lil tweet beef that ended as quickly as it started. But that’s when the passion to fight her came out . Not just cause of beef but cause she is also considered the best & best is what I am after .

TA:After Zoila’s lack luster performance last month due to coming off an injury and ring rust, any special provisions in your training for this fight? And how do you prepare mentally for big fights like these?
Eye:You have to be careful with a fighter who has been off for long periods. It’s a good & evil . No pun intended but . But they are dangerous cause they are gutless and want to find a way to get back in the game with same feeling last time they had. So I am aware of her eagerness to show others & herself that she is mentally and physically prepared as she once was . The differences with me & her is I know I am . I have had my share of battles throughout every camp , I just voice them as freely has her situation , I had had fractures and other injuries that I worked thru to get to this very moment fighting Bellator champion Zoila .

TA:Any predictions for this fight?
Eye: I am not good with predictions because fights are 50/50 game . But I plan to be well prepared and I will show everyone by leaving it in the cage.

TRUassassin Fight Gear and Apparel Sponsors Bellator Fighter Brian Rogers at the Bellator championships 78

On October 26th 2012, TRUassassin Fight Gear and Apparel will be sponsoring Bellator fighter Brian Rogers as he steps in the cage with Strikeforce vet Dominique Steele with a pro record of 6-2 at the Bellator championships 78 at Wright state University in Dayton Ohio.

Short Bio

Rogers was a 4-year letter winner and a 3-year starter as inside linebacker for the Walsh University Cavaliers between 2002 and 2005. He was named All-Conference by the Mid States Football Association twice and left Walsh University second all time in career tackles.

Rogers works as an associate special education teacher for the Leap program in his hometown of Kent, Ohio.

Pro career

Rogers started his professional MMA career at 1-2 with both losses coming by decision. He followed the slow start to his professional MMA career with 7 consecutive victories, all by first round KO/TKO which included wins in both his Strikeforce and Bellator debuts.

Strikeforce

Rogers made his Strikeforce debut on March 5, 2011 at Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson where he defeated Ian Rammel by TKO in the first round.[4]

Bellator Fighting Championships

On May 21, 2011 it was announced that Rogers will be taking part in the Bellator Season Five Middleweight Tournament which begins on September 17, 2011.[5] Rogers defeated Victor O’Donnell via TKO in the quarterfinal round at Bellator 50. In the semifinal round, Rogers lost to Alexander Shlemenko via TKO in the second round at Bellator 54.

On January 9, 2012 Rogers was announced as the first of eight participants in Bellator’s Season 6 Middleweight Tournament. In the opening round, he faced Vitor Vianna on March 16, 2012 at Bellator 61 and won via KO in the first round. The knockout received incredible media and fan attention and has since had over 400,000 views on YouTube as one of Bellator’s most popular videos in the promotion’s short history.

Rogers was scheduled to face Bruno Santos in the semifinal round of the Middleweight Tournament at Bellator 66. However, on April 16, 2012, it was revealed that Santos had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury and was replaced by Bellator newcomer Andreas Spang.[6] After dominating most of the first two rounds, he was caught by a counter left hook which resulted in a KO loss.
Now Rogers has the opportunity to return and show championship heart in facing gritty Steele who always comes to fight. This will be an important fight for both fighters and will be a very exciting match up

POPULAR BELLATOR MIDDLEWEIGHT BRIAN ROGERS JOINS FUNDAFIGHTER.COM

Fundafighter.com announced Monday that the latest fighter to join the growing fighter fundraising hub is Bellator standout Brian Rogers and that half of the funds raised by his first campaign will go to improving the technological resources at LEAP, the Ohio-based education center for emotionally and behaviorally-challenged youth that the former special education teacher used to teach at before leaving to pursue fighting full time. The other half will go towards offsetting Rogers’ training camp expenses for his Bellator 78 bout at the end of this month in Dayton, Ohio.

Rogers says that the LEAP program is in desperate need of new computers and that he is hopeful that through fan support and FundaFighter, he will be able to provide the school with the necessary funds to purchase new equipment.

“When I worked for the LEAP program they were very supportive of my MMA career, giving me time off for fights and to train. This year, as much as it was a disappointment, I took a step back from my teaching position at LEAP to focus fully on my mixed martial arts career,” Rogers explains. “My former co-workers are still my good friends and I even have one of my training partners who works for the program. I wanted to do something to give back to them and to the kids, which is why I partnered with FundaFighter to start this campaign.”

“[FundaFighter] provides an opportunity for the fans and Backers of fighters they like or respect to truly support them or a charity or cause that’s important to them,” Rogers points out.” “Most fighters don’t get pay-per-view percentages or ticket percentages from the fans, so in this situation the fans can actually really directly support the fighter. FundaFighter is the voice of the fans to the fighter.”

Raising the bar for Backer incentives, “The Professional Predator,” as he has recently been anointed due to his polished look outside the cage and his gentlemanly demeanor with the press, will be offering his number one fan the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk him out for his October 26 Bellator bout. The unique fan experience will likely make one lucky supporter the envy of his or her friends.

FundaFighter.com founder Robbie Stein says it was Rogers’ enthusiasm for his fighter crowdfunding model and his dedication to providing his supporters unique, valuable rewards like these that made the partnership happen.

“I’m so happy for Brian to be a part of FundaFighter. He is an amazing fighter and person, and his rewards are incredible. He really gets the concept and we’re confident that his campaign for this very worthwhile cause will be a successful one,” Stein says. “We couldn’t be more excited to have him on board.”

Rogers’ campaign will run from October 1 to December 1, with a goal of raising $4000.

Brian is available for interviews regarding his FAF sponsorship and his Bellator 78 bout
